Going to take off a week or so and try to kill a good buck up in Ohio and maybe things will turn on down here by th...

Warmest October on record
(Preview)
Almost 70 degrees again today in the northeast. They say we are on track for an all time record warm October. The impact on hunting has been terrible. This is normally the time of a big migration. So far nothing seen to speak of. Farmers only brought in their corn a week ago. I am hoping things turn on soon....

The Law Says 3 Strikes And You Are OUT!!

If I had known that there was going to be this much law enforcement involvement, I might not have gone after this hunt! Well...all things considered, it was a fun experience that will be the makings of some good fireside stories. Here are the details: Strike One A subcontractor of ours put me on to a ne...

First shoot
(Preview)
I knew the birds were not in good numbers yet, but I still had to give it a try. Shot in a pecan orchard in Dallas County. Same one we killed 161 in last year. I picked up 46. I was on a dang good roll for a while. I killed 40 of the first 43 birds I shot at. Some I did shoot at more than once. Then things went south. I...

A Return To The Pecan Orchard
(Preview)
A month ago, two of us shot a new pecan orchard site that was very productive. We killed 107 birds and since then, the crows have returned to the point it needed to be hunted again. This time, the owner's friend wanted to shoot so I agreed to take him and another buddy of mine. I set the blind up last night...

Crow "Hunting"
(Preview)
Thats what I'm doing, trying to find them! Bobs Hurricane post on crows leaving may be spot on. Strange lack of birds on prime property here. Made a hunt Saturday a:m on a spot that is not one of my best but we have averaged around 60 here in the past. Anyway it was overcast 69 degrees and 8 to 12 wind, not b...

C&D Crows
(Preview)
Was able to slide out this morning and shoot. I had found a place along the C&D Canal that had the potential to be a good spot. The nasty boogers were crossing the canal along a high line from south(farm land) to north(dairy farm). Only thing was the high line was in DE about 400 yrds from me legally try...

Taking crows under Federal Law - Questions
(Preview)
I just got a lead on a farmer that is having a crow problem on his 1,500 acre farm (corn), and he has passed on his name and phone number for me to call him. I haven't called him yet as I want to make sure I'm able to do this legally. From what's listed below, a Federal Permit is not needed to take crows under c...

Got out after them this a:m, was hoping weatherman would be right but the cooler weather slowed down and instead of mid to low 60's it was 73 when we parked the truck. Traveled home last week and was able to get a short hunt in amongst family business. Set up at the edge of a cut corn field and started calling. Crows, Sod & Seed

Had an interesting hunt on Monday. A close friend who sells fertilizer has helped me connect with several farmers with crow problems. One of his friends said he had some, so I asked both of them to come along on a hunt...this trip was more social than about crow numbers. The farmer is a well-heeled ma...

Dead birds in the decoys
(Preview)
I had a good laugh this morning when a so called crow hunting expert on another forum told me he hides all his dead birds because it makes crows circle out of range. Certainly crows that glide and crash outside of shotgun range will cause a crow to stop and circle but most will then continue on towards the...
