Final hunt for “early” crow season in MI.
(Preview)
Not cause’ I wouldn’t head out again, it’s that there will be worship commitments or poor weather through Sat.However, this morning was just about perfect for a March hunt: 38 deg., no wind, and overcast. Typical blueberry field setup and typically highly-educated locals, except for four low and s...

Wish me luck, last hunt of the season...
(Preview)
Hi lads, Sunday will be the last hunt of this years hunting season (the hunting year ends on 31st of march in germany). Officially crow season has already officially ended, but we've managed to get a special extension due to crop damage. We'll set up on a field where there's about 70 crows about. If we ge...

Educated birds, coffee, and plum cake.
(Preview)
Decided to visit old friends who have a 140 acre backyard; coffee and baked goods following bandits (I hoped). Clear, cold, and only 3 mph wind out of the NNE. A little worried at first, as there wasn’t any response the first 10-15 minutes. I knew the degree of difficulty here was high, as these birds are...

Not so old, old, and older.
(Preview)
No, not us, our shotguns. The ones we used this morning at a place that produces about this many each time we visit. Morning began very slowly with the first flight (unusually so) flaring off due to something. But, they returned. Larry the Master Machinist (“Der Meister” as he would be addressed in Ger...

Gents, I have a question............
(Preview)
Up until last year I've always used a cassette player. My wife got me a Primos Alpha Dog for my birthday last year and it came with pre loaded sounds. Crow Frenzy, Crow attack etc. The one that has always worked the best for us is/was the death cry of a crow, crow in distress or what ever you wish to call i...

Short range but effective crow call...
(Preview)
This works great at close range say a couple hundred yards-it'll bring 'em in and is very handy if you "run and gun"...you could attach an external speaker making it even more versatile too...it's most effective use is to get near where crows are nearby or expected to fly over....hang it off your belt o...

Townies. Can’t stand em.’ They’re way too sassy.Been packed up ready to deploy for several days without doing so due to various flaky reasons. Decided last night that I would march northward this morning, a whole 1.6 miles from home, just outside of city limits to a known Townie hangout, at a summer RV...

The End Has Come

Today marks the end of the season, in the Republik of MD, for nasty boogers so it was the last chance to try them. Went to the C&D canal again this morning and arrived before light. Well, pulled up on the levee, gathered my things, and walked about 300 yards to where I was gonna set up. Put the Crow,Fish...

Hello from Germany
(Preview)
Hi Lads, I've been inactive for a while but I thought I'd pop in to say hi. Life's been good and I've learned a lot and hunted crows (and foxes, boar, ducks etc.) since last I've been here. We've brought up the sons count to three, I've added a good bit to my hunting gear and finally got a dog. A fine Labrador...

Vanishing Cornfield Feeders

Reconned a favorite spot yesterday, a week following the rains, and was pleased to find it passable, unlike the mire it was a few days ago. So, I set the blind up last night to save some time. Since I see very little activity I have to assume that everyone except for Demi is doing worth a damn on crows this year? Is this a fair statement? Hey Butch (and other southern hunters...) The area I hunt (central MS) has what I guess I would call gently rolling hills for the most part... My Fish Crow Fantasy Fulfilled!
(Preview)
Fish Crows have always been a big challenge for me. In addition to being smaller and having a different call, they are extremely wary, in part because they usually travel in large groups (typically from 25 to 100) in order to have more eyes looking for danger. At the slightest sign of trouble they go fo...
