Start of a new season in Wisconsin
(Preview)
Hello all, a new poster here. Season started Saturday, and have 22 birds so far. All "run and gun" , mostly on state or county land. Lumber company clear-cuts are also productive. My third year of crow hunting, love it!

Looking for a new gun.
(Preview)
I am in the market for a new gun to shoot clays and crows. I want something that is gas operated and shoots soft. 12 ga is the only gauge I am interested in. I am looking for options form those that have shot some of the newer guns as well as some of the older one and have a broad base to measure them by. I am not afr...

Ultimate Road Kill!
(Preview)
Just had to share this with you. I truly regret not having my camera with me this morning. Going to an appointment this a.m., when just a couple of hundred yards down the road, I saw a "...dead skunk in the middle of the road..." (*you've heard the song, fur' shur'). And from my olfactory respo...

A hunt that stands out.
(Preview)
Here is a hunt that I will always remember, I was setup by 7:00 a.m. with a north breeze of 10 mph and 60 degrees outside. This was on November 29th 2002. I was solo and it was partly cloudy that morning. Well when they started to move I had shooting as fast as I could keep the gun loaded for the first 25 minutes...

January 25th 1976
(Preview)
On this day I was into my second season out here and had my best solo hunt to date at that time. I made a note that of the 198 crows shot that morning 80 were shot with a model 42 Winchester pump 410 gauge with a 1/2 ounce load of # 9 shot. I was shooting hand loads in the 2 1/2 inch hulls. The remainder were shot wi...

Never a bad day
(Preview)
Despite my whining a couple of posts ago about getting no action at all, today wasn't all that bad. Set up in the moonless dark, at a familiar location that was almost in a tunnel between the trees and the tall corn. Not very good visibility for me or the crows. First call brought in three that took a couple...

When big bores and large shot pay off
(Preview)
This past Saturday 10gacrowshooter and I hit one of our favorite places in nearby Maine. It could have been a great day as birds were migrating north for much of the morning. Most birds were very high, heading due north and usually in balls of 20 to 100 birds each. We managed to knock down 21 between us...

The Incredible 20 gauge shotgun skills of Bob A.
(Preview)
I never saw anyone whose hit ratio was virtually 99% with a 20 gauge at the heights Bob A. nailed his crows. Some dropped like bombs , some dropped violently spinning like a horizontal top...some exploded when they got mighty close...but he often called his shots with comical satirical comments li...

Crows Consuming Cow Crap
(Preview)
Charles and I went and scoted a new place yesterday. It is a large dairy farm. As we got to the edge of the property, there were literally thousands of crows in the air. With the temps above freezing now, they were extremely busy spreading manure on the fields. The crows were out picking the grain out of th...

MotionDecoy's wisdom

Quote from MOTIONDECOY yesterday (18 AUG), “When it's hot out they tend to stay near water…” Well, I decided to do a “quickie” setup this morning at the location of Sunday’s church picnic because I had to get away quickly due to an appointment out of town. The location is at a church member’s property. H...

Migration percentages?
(Preview)
Anybody ever see migration percentages for crows? What got me thinking about this, is that I see and kill more crows in the middle of winter than in the summer up here. Crows are every where right now. I realise that one of the reason is that they are more concentrated and gathered instead of being all s...

What are your thoughts on taking the scout? I've had great results and bad results 1) Took the scout and all the troops attacked and made for a great day. Did everything right. I got out and in position one hour before sunrise. Had the best camo...

No elaborate stories today. I had the pleasure of taking my church friend's son, Sam, on his first crow hunt today. We had previously hunted turkey this spring, but it was too late in the season to get one. We'll take care of that during the fall season. However, today, a couple of bandits obliged us and h...

Hawk Call Sounds, with Crow

Like many of you I use my hawk and owl decoys occasionally and with some occasional success. I have never had a satisfactory stand for them—only a piece of re-bar with an extension PVC pipe.
