Cooler weather hunt
(Preview)
43 degrees at first light and windy after about 7am, started off fast and 15 hit the ground not but a few got thru us. Then it was slow till the wind got started which I can attest makes for some fine wing shooting in a tight orchard. Son was on today and had several doubles and the old man here had a few . Sever...

Quick Hello!
(Preview)
With my new life, home and busy work schedule, I seem to only get to stop by once a month. Just hoping you all are doing well. I haven't been able to get out for quite sometime for any hunting, much less crows. However, I did just return from my week long waterfowling trip to Saskatchewan. What a blast! I thi...

Pick up the dead??
(Preview)
Is it better to go collect the dead crows periodically or leave them out hoping they add to the decoy spread? -- Edited by Lefty2Barrels on Monday 10th of October 2016 05:27:55 PM

Saturday Hunt
(Preview)
Still hot and dry here and it's making it tough hunting on us. Crows shut down about 9:30 on us.I had not checked if the orchard had been bush hogged, which will cost us birds. Anyway we hunted hard and killed 81, which is about 60 shy of our average on this spot. It has been a good steady spot, not complainin...

Crow calls.
(Preview)
I have 2 mouth calls one is a Knight & Hale magnum crow and the other is a H. S. Strut Hammerin Call. The Knight & Hale sounds way better, and is more crow like. Both of these calls have a bad problem with the reed sticking when used heavily. These calls are advertised as turkey locater calls, so the...

When to call is as important as knowing how to call.
(Preview)
Ok so important to duck hunting is knowing when to call as much as you know how to call. So how do you think that figures into crow huntin? Or does it? -- Edited by DuckWyatt on Wednesday 12th of October 2016 07:19:13 PM

Couple of hunts
(Preview)
Experimented on the orchard my grandson and I shot 9/17, was hoping it would reload with some fresh birds. It didn't and only picked up 15, knew better but had to give it a shot. Lesson relearned again. 2nd hunt was better but well off the number of crows usually seen and heard, believe they have ben hun...

Crow hunting and hawks/owls
(Preview)
Me and a buddy went crow hunting saturday morning and we saw and heard three hawks close to our blind. They even flew over a few times.
Does the presence of hawks/owls help or hurt you while crow hunting.
If they hurt your hunting then how do you run them off whithout shooting at them?

(Preview)
Crows are consistently a few hundred yards to the east in the morning. Basically right into the rising sun. I try to get set up against the trees in a small clearing with the sun to my back so that I can see what I'm doing and so that I am not so lit up. Back against the big trees about 30 yards tall, small trees...

Better shooting advice.

So, my crow shooting skills are not what I would like them to be. I have almost no history with shotgun skills. I have a long history of adequate skills with things that have sights, expert medals from the military etc. But I just can't get comfortable with the rail and front bead. I'm ok when throwing cla...

Does anybody put these things in trees? It seems like this big metal piece is going to cause some problems. I cannot get the metal piece completely hidden inside the decoy. And also it makes it pretty heavy.

Old Spot
(Preview)
I'm having a hard time this fall locating good numbers of crows. Couple hundred here and there, none of the typical feeding groups of thousands. Shot 20 or so crows this morning and rarely inspect or pick up the dead as they disappear into the cover to be recycled by nature. This one dropped within a few f...

Solo Hunt
(Preview)
Got after them Solo Thursday a:m an 10 plus degrees cooler helps a southern hunter out big time. Started slow, first one committed suicide after 6:30 then it got better. About 40 % were soft shots which I enjoy giving them the old "dose of hush up" the others were wild as bucks, great snap wing shooting....

Barrel length
(Preview)
Out of boredom I googled (since Im new to and starting out) "crow hunting". I came across a few pictures of birds, hunters, and some REALLY REALLY long gun barrels! I mean they look to be 4-5 feet long, no joke! Can some one explain this? Are these joke pictures? Or is this some specialty thing?

Fall Crows

Getting into a few decent shoots now, crows are gathered in the thousands. Had a 10 minute firefight yesterday morning and found the drab summer plumage to be waning and birds are sporting a nice glossy coat. Seems that the head and neck feathers are last to get prime. 1st Hunt this Fall
(Preview)
Grandson an I got after them this A:M and had a blast! (pun intended). A good challenging hunt to knock the rust off. Crows were green but not stupid. From what I know most of the dead were not young, some looked past retirement age. Anyway we shot so-so and managed to pick up 53 and of course we hurt several...
